Hi Guys,,,

I was planning to force the transmission into FWD operation by installing
the FWD Switch Fuse in the main fuse box. One document states that
installing the fuse will only disable the VDC and not the AWD System itself.
Does this mean that I wont actually save fuel while in FWD mode? Also, is
prolonged use of the FWD mode dangerous for my MY04 AT Forester?

Best Regards,
X-Shadow

Why pay all that extra money for a car with permanent AWD and then try to put in into 2WD mode to possibly save a few pennies on fuel?

Putting Subarus into 2WD mode is a "limp home" feature, or actually a "tow home" feature. (Otherwise it would be a switch in on the dash not a fuse under the hood). They're not meant to be driven like that and I bet it don't really save a noticeable amount of fuel anyway.

The whole drivetrain is turning even in 2WD. It won't save anything.
