Hi, I bought an 02 Forester L, with 160 K and only one previous owner, who babied it and did all the maintenance at a dealership according to the Carfax.
My problem is that I’m having trouble getting used to the manual transmission. I’ve driven manuals before, but never a four-wheel-drive, so maybe that’s the main issue. Unless I do everything perfectly, The car lurches like mad and it feels like a tug-of-war between the front and back wheels Until I get it under control. I’ve even got the flashing check engine light a few times. Once, the light stayed on and threw a P0303 (misfire in cylinder 3) code.
The plugs and wires were changed only a few hundred miles ago and I tested the coil pack with my multimeter and it’s fine.
The only other symptom of anything strange is a slight occasional hiccup at idle, Which does not correspond to any change in the tachometer.
I’ve search the forums and I can’t seem to find an answer to this question: is it possible to get a check engine light from bad driving?
Thanks for reading
