Hey everyone, my wife and I just bought our first Subaru. 2019 Premium. Sold our 2008 Honda Pilot, boy was my wife sad to see it go. She's slowly warming up to the Forester. The 2019 really impressed us with the quiet solid ride. Much more refined than the 2018 XT we drove last year. Thanks for all the info on this site, seems full of nice friendly people.

Hi and welcome!! Hope youi enjoy your new Scooby.

The Pilot is a good vehicle but the Forester offers something different outside of the norm and is a fantastic riding car, IMHO, built as it is on the hugely popular Subaru Global Platform.

As soon as I drove one of the first Imprezas built on the new platform I wanted one, it impressed that much!! So I'm even more gratfeul now that the Forester shares that chasis, too.

Congrats on your new Forester. May I ask you to elaborate more on "Much more refined than the 2018 XT" please? I heard the cabin is a lot quieter.
I went with the XT because when I test drove the NA engine, I felt its lack of power is a deal breaker. But it was 2011 model (new then), and I guess that one has the old 2.5 EJ engine. Not sure what 2019 has.
Thanks and congrats again!

Well the short version of a long story is I've been a vehicle test engineer for a long time. I've been blessed to drive a lot of different vehicles on test tracks all over US and Europe. I'm trained to notice rattles and shakes and vehicle dynamic most people don't feel unless you point them out. Tunning suspension, brakes, vehicle handling is most of what I've done the past 27 years. The 2019 global platform is much more rigid than the 2018. This means the suspension doesn't have to cover up and deal with little undamped chassis ossolation. It also means road noise can be better isolated. Also Subaru did a nice job of isolating and blocking engine noise. There is a lot of polyurethane foam covering the high pressure fuel pump and lines for example. The 2019 is the quietest vehicle in this price point I've been in. The 2018 had slightly better steering feedback. The turbo power was nice but my wife insist on automatic and I found the cvt and turbo lag disappointing on the 2018 XT around town. The throttle response and CVT tuning was better below 45 mph on the 2019.

If I was the primary driver the lack of manual transmission would be a deal breaker for me. The wife's forester is the only automatic in our fleet. Even my kids drive manual
