Heya.

I'm at the point where I need my first oil change. Is there any specific reason to take it to the dealer for this? I have a shop in town I trust and you prefer to have it done there.

Only reason to go to the dealer is if it is free or if you bought the maintenance plan.

Just make sure they use a good quality 5w-30 full synthetic oil.

Ok cool.. As it is not free, nor did I buy the plan, I will go to the shop I trust.

Thanks..

Consider doing it yourself. It's very easy on a 2014 forester. Just save your receipts (approx $25 for jug of oil, $6 for Subaru oil filter, $1 crush washer) as proof it was done.
