Curious how many miles before you needed that first brake job...I do about 20k miles a year, 50/50 split highway and city (lots of lights and braking) and I'm wondering when I should expect that first pad replacement.
I'm also wondering if changing pads early will help me avoid the rotor resurfacing/replacement for a while..

I would usually check the brakes once every two or three months (just plain shining a light and look at it) cos it's hard to put down a figure on when a change is needed.
If you need to travel around hilly areas or brake hard often, the brakes usually wouldn't last as long as normal driving and it's also more likely that the rotors warp.

With 65K on my '07 FXT, my pads are getting low and I plan to replace them within the next month.

But I have a manual, so I use the middle pedal a bit less than the average mouth breather.
