Based on the news there will be a massive recall concerning airbags. Subaru has been mentioned as one of the companies potentially affected. I checked with "MySubaru", so far no recall.

Nevertheless, it may be a good idea for this forum to have a "Recall Notice" forum which references an official notice of recall by Subaru. Such a forum would be a service to the Subaru community.

Subaru doesn't issue very many recalls - too few to justify a separate forum, IMHO. They do issue a fair share of TSBs, many of which can be found in our Knowledge Base section: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f106/

There is an ongoing thread about the Takata airbag recall, but so far no Forester models have been affected: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f155/takata-airbag-recall-update-no-foresters-included-merged-thread-353161/
I think a TSB/recall forum could be very helpful. That way, people can subscribe and receive a notice whenever there's a new TSB. Subscribing to the KB forum in general would likely result in too many notifications for many people.

Subaru will contact each and every owner of any affected vehicle personally by mail and email. If you bought a used Subaru, make sure you registered the transfer of ownership with them.

I'm not sure what having a separate topic here would add to the mix.

Please keep in mind that this forum isn't affiliated in any fashion with Subaru of America or Subaru Canada. How would we obtain this recall information and ensure that it's accurate and complete? The TSBs we have collected in our DIY & TSB section were all contributed by members on a volunteer basis - either they obtained them directly from Subaru, or through a paid AllData membership. There is no way we could guarantee that the list is even near complete (it isn't) or up to date - it just serves as a courtesy by members for members.

Recall notices are always based on VIN number, and owners with affected VINs will be notified by Subaru through mail and/or email. Best way to ensure you're getting timely recall notices that affect your particular car is to register with SOA through their MySubaru website (that's for US members - not sure if Subaru Canada has a similar site).

I guess I'm just thinking of situations like with the '14 XTs, where there was a TSB available to fix some of the issues, but dealers weren't always aware, and SoA didn't contact owners (AFAIK). I'm not suggesting that the forum become a recall notification system (and certainly not an official one), just one place for aggregated info on potentially applicable TSBs. An unguaranteed, crowd-sourced, list is better than no list at all.

saw an article in my local paper business section today again about the takata airbag recall. AS I understand the story there are still about 85 million older cars on the road with takata airbags. The gov't wants Takata to prove these are safe before they issue another potential recall. So the ball is in Takatas' court as it were. WE shall see.....
