Pulled engine and transmission on 2002 Forester.
Replaced bad transmission and did timing belt/waterpump/etc on motor. (not sure it's an 02 motor in it)
Motor starts and dies,threw code for TPS,checked and set TPS and still doing it.

Any ideas? (we've gone over every vacuum line)

Not after the initial TPS code. Has stayed clear since.
Really got me stumped.

Clogged idle air control valve.
Clean it anyway, it's due. Q tìp!

Does it hard start sometimes?
Jiggle the orange fuses in the fuse box.

TPS - do you have a thick floor mat under the gas pedal?

Grounds? Loose battery connection?🤔

OK had my son in law double check the timing on the belt. Looks like when he set the tensioner it moved moved over a tooth or so.
Looking like that's the issue,know for sure when he gets it back together tomorrow.

OK,belt timing is dead on as far as I know.
Runs a little longer but spits out the intake and dies still.
Give it gas and it bogs and spits hard and dies.
Not sure which way to go with this.

Well have changed every sensor on it. Fuel pressure checked. Compression check.
Checked everything there is to check. All good but still won't run.
I'm out of ideas and have no direction to go with it.
Think it's going to the junkyard.

ECU, I had a Toyota that ran kinda crappy, removed ECU, cleaned, fluxed and re-soldered every joint on the pcb including the pins that plug into wire harness, ran like a champ afterwards for years.

Also check that wiring harness is not work hardened and possibly cracked wire inside the insulation. I completely unwrapped a couple different older vehicle under hood harnesses to check and ended up replacing part of them with new wires. Tested couple weeks and then re-wrapped entire harness.

Well we pretty much gave up on it.
Bought another 1st gen Forester and this one became a parts car.

(I'm suspecting the ECU or harness is the problem)
