I have been wanting to get a forester for a while but affording
one at the moment is the biggest problem. I currently drive a
Impreza turbo 2000. A friend of mine who up rated and built his
own Impreza engine(ex-army mechanic) suggested buying a
Forester with a blown engine and swapping mine into it.

What are your thoughts on this? My current engine is on 137k
miles but is mechanically sound and has never given me any
problems. My mate said he can do the swap in around 4 hours.

If you were to do this is there anything else you would refresh
or renew in the engine in the process?

Sounds like a plan. I'm going to be swapping an Impreza engine into mine too soon.
You may aswell change the cambelt whiles its out, maybe the clutch too.

I've also got a "spare" forester with a blown engine, for sale, but there a few miles between us.

It's a bit of a nightmare living here where Subaru are concerned. Foresters
are few and far between and have quite a price premium compared to the
UK. Out of interest what sort of price would you ask for your forester with
blown engine?

I'll send you a PM and some pics, raptorman
Cheers for the pics bud, but like you say too far for me to
travel. Ideally I need a going price for a foz with a duff
motor to see if this route is cost effective for me.
