Just bought this 98 forester L with "rebuilt" engine in the back seat for $400. Intalled engine got 500 miles, and started loosing low end power, then nocking, now its gone. I found an EJ20G, but im not sure if will drop right in and run right. Will i run into issues from ECU differences, maf sensors and such? My basic question is should i go with the turbo or stick to the origional engine.
I have a 93 impreza with a 1.8l that im running a tdo4 turbo with no real problems, i just dont want to buy an engine for the forester and have to pay some real cash to make it work. Thanks for any advise.

Old post...but do you know about the EJ25D to EJ22E swap used on the '96-'99 OB/GT? Same as yours. Look on USMB site for more info.

The EJ20G, with your IM and exhaust should work but will be painfully slow, IMHO.
