I had a problem with the Driver Monitoring System today. On a regular commute route in daylight, I got the "KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD" (or whatever it says) message and the usual alert beep. Instead of disappearing after five seconds or so, the alert remained on the display, and repeated every 15 seconds or so. It would disappear momentarily, then come up again. I was being careful to look straight ahead, but it made no difference in the alerts.

I cycled the system several times by turning off the sensors and then turning them back on again, with the same results. This continued until I reached my destination and turned the engine off. When I started back up again, an hour or so later, the problem had disappeared.

I wasn't wearing a hat or anything different than what I normally wear when I drive. e.g. there wasn't any barrier between the cameras and my eyes other than the glasses I normally wear.

I appreciate this might have been a momentary glitch, but I'm wondering if anyone has seen a similar problem, and if so, what you did about it.

Get it checked out by the Dealer ASAP if this happens again (I would take it in now and not wait). You can disable it as you noted you have done until you can get to a Dealer. If the Driver Focus system thinks you are distracted for an extended period of time it will slow the vehicle to a complete stop and call a Subaru Starlink Operator if it deems you completely unresponsive. Here is an article on this that came out this morning:

Don't really worry about unless it happens again. If it becomes a reoccurring error then have it check out. I would mention this problem during your next schedule maintenance if this is basically a one off problem.

Interesting. However, the problem seems to have been isolated. It hasn't recurred.

Hey JJF, I read that article in "Tourquenews" while researching my Touring, found it interesting but I have not seen this mentioned in any Subaru literature:

"it will slow your new Subaru Forester to a stop. If the driver is completely unresponsive, this technology will use Subaru’s Starlink system to contact a live operator for help."

I'm wondering if anyone has a corroborating source for the above action to be taken?
Anyone?
Anyone?

I could not find it in the US Spec Owners Manual when I poked around in the revised online manual. Perhaps Torquenews got it wrong, or this is a non US Spec feature, or possible future enhancement.

Agreed. I haven’t seen that “feature” documented in any official Subaru publication.

Doesn’t mean it’s not true, but I’d think Suburu would have that information emboldened in an obvious location in the owner’s manual.
