I am trading in my '05 Forester and getting a 2014 Forester soon. I am wondering if I should keep the oil drain valve I installed on my '05 Forester and reinstall the OEM oil pan drain plug. Are the two model's size and thread the same? Thanks.

I do not know the thread size for an '05. I installed the QwikValve F108S Oil Drain Valve with Short Nipple on our '14 2.0 XT. The 2.0 has 16mm-1.5 threads.

If you are considering the 2.5 engine, that may have a different thread size.

Hope that helps a little.

I'm getting the 2.5L engine, the same as in my '05. Not sure if there have been any changes in that engine. Thanks.

Per rockauto.com thread size for a '05 is M20-1.50

The FB25 is quite a bit different from the EJ25 in your 2005.

According to Fumoto's website, the EJ25 takes part number F-105. The FB25 (2011+ naturally aspirated Foresters) takes part number F-108. The one from your 2005 probably won't fit.

Just found out that the 2012 and newer 2.5 engine uses a smaller oil drain plug as you say. Could not find out what size it is however, if I want to install a new oil pan drain valve. Anyone know?
