Hi,

The SLS supsoension on my SG9 MY06 (what I call the facelift model) failed before Chirstmas. Following the example given on here I decided to replace the SLS struts with KYB equivalents and standard (stronger) springs from a non SLS SG9. Fairly confident the ride height would be more or less the same.

WRONG! As warned by my local Subaru garage the rear ride height is MUCH lower, like 2 -2.5 inches. What have I done wrong?

I got KYB dampers, part no:334344/45 and coil springs from a normal non-sls SG model. Ride height is way WAY lower.

Should I have changed the top mounts (top hats) to non-sls, are they thicker? Or, should I have used the KYB fitting kit (SM5422)???

The garage compared the coil before fitting them. The replacements are the same length and clearly stronger. The dampers appear to be the same length as well. So they can only suggest the springs are still too weak.

Any hints/advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Just for the record, I measured the length of the damper cylinder this afternoon. The KYB is roughly 4 - 5cm shorter....which is roughly the difference in the before and after ride height.

Any SG owners out there who have successfully replaced their SLS suspension? I do hope so. All the forester specialists I've spoken to this afternoon have confirm it simply don't work.. aarrgghh!

MY04 had it standard here in Austraia.

My mate just put stock springs back into a just-acquired 07 and the rear is 5cm lower. The shocks had been replace with non-SLS ones.

Not sure what to do.

I'm not sure why you have this problem, but I know how you can fix it. But it will cost ya.
Replace the rear springs with raised king springs. Problem solved.
The kyb spring replacement is not for the SG series that I could find. Only the SF series.

When I changed suspension at the rear I said I want standard springs. Not the ones for sls. What did I get...same springs as I allready had in the sls setup. Way too soft.
