The owners manual for my 04 FXT 4EAT calls for Dexron III
Can I use Valvoline DEX/MERC for a one time drain/fill on my 04 FXT 4EAT?

Or should I use this Lucas Oils Semi-Synthetic ATF?

I need to do this today as I am leaving for a 1400+ mile trip tonight...
These seem to be the best options at the local Advance/Autozone/Oreillys.
There is no local Subaru dealer to get Subaru Trans Oil from.

Thanks, Josh

Does the Lucas ATF conform to Dex III standards? If so, either one should be fine. FWIW, I've been using Mobil 1 ATF for a few years now with no ill effects, and I get it at AutoZone.

Advice taken about Lucas, Thanks.
ADC, would Valvoline DEX/MERC which meets DEX III be ok?
Or should I go with synthetic?

I have just been so weary about using synthetic trans oil because
of all the stuff I've been reading on the forum about slippage.

If I go with a one time synthetic drain/refill,....
Would it be recommended to go with Royal Purple or Mobil 1
Or should I just stick with dino Dex III?

I think the whole synthetic atf / slippage connection is a myth. Also, Mobil 1 isn't a real synthetic. It's just much more refined dino oil / synthetic blend, and has a high viscosity index like synthetics. I've been using Mobil 1 ATF since my first transmission fluid change, and have been draining and filling ~4 quarts every 15,000 miles. I have over 80,000 miles on the transmission now, and have never experienced slippage.
