I have found two different tools that are listed for this and has two different size pins and a different size spread between the pins .. anyone know what the specs are for 2.5 L sohc N/a tool --

I found one part # of 499977100 -- but can't find the specs

I cannot help with the part numbers sorry, but have you already tried to get it off? my pully just 'wobbled' free, with not much effort at all.

no not yet .. I am pretty sure I can get it removed well enough but my concern was being able to torque it down properly after I am all said and done... I figured on being my first time doing this particular task might as well be safe and have a proper tool for it

Im not sure what the correct tq setting is. I know with both of my subies, I just tightened it until it was tight. Its a reverse thread bolt IIRC and it will not back out. kinda ghetto, but im sure most everyone has done the same.

I pretty much agree with Tuned200, I put mine back in with plenty of thread lock, car in first gear, handbrake on, a nice swift pull on the torque wrench, click click, job done. :icon_biggrin:

I was kinda thinking that but all I ever see on here is people with stick shift subys and removal with 5th gear and a buddy on the brakes ...

I have an auto trans and can't seem to find any good info from that side ... didn't want to take chances

Yeah you're a bit stuck with an auto, you could always remove the starter motor and lock up the flywheel, I've had to do that before.

As you've said "you don't want to take chances" it's probably best for you to find the right tools for the job.

2001 AT here, just had to remove and replace mine here recently and this is how I managed to do it without buying the tool. On removal I used the old belt that was going to be replaced and gripped it with vice grips and spun the motor enough so the vice grips lodged against the bracket for the AC compressor (crappy solo technique). On installation I had to do a little better and realized if I put three 3 inch 3/8 socket wrench extensions in the holes so I could use a long wrench with a cheater bar to prevent the the motor from turning while I could get the bolt torqued to the 130 ft lbs torque it calls for. I had to put the socket on the bolt, slide the wrench in to prevent turning, then attach the 1/2 drive extension on my torque wrench to the socket as the socket wont fit in the gap after the holding wrench is in place. You will need a friend with a little mass or strength for the holding part IMHO. Mine had normal RH threads btw.
The Subaru part number you have is correct for my vehicle, 499977100 , unsure on the specs/cost though.

I also stuck a few extensions in there - they fit perfect and put a pry bar in. If you have someone to help you out holding it while you torque it down it works beautifully.
