Hello Subie experts!

What thoughts on the root cause for this?

The car belonged to us for several years, serviced, and this occurred without warning.

It's getting swapped out for a used transmission, but I've never seen something like this before.

Something inside has gone bang; perhaps a bearing failure. Time for a complete replacement.

I'd guess a motor mount or transmission mount failed and you got twist there between the transmission and engine.
