On full lock (left & right) at low speeds (parking) the front end feels like it wants to crab sideways and makes really horrible grating sounds. At normal road speeds or highways speeds it sounds ok, it doesn't pull to the left or right, it brakes straight. Anyone got any ideas as to what it might be??

Sounds like a classic case of torque bind - which could be caused by a variety of things, like your transfer solenoid going bad or mismatched tires.

Under the hood in the fuse box there a space for a fuse in a spot called FWD, (this disables the AWD and turns it into a front wheel drive) my Subaru dealer gave me a 15amp fuse and the problem has been cured. However he said it was only a temporary fix, probably coz he wants the major job fixed. The car (380,000 km, 98 Forester I use for work) runs fine now and I dont think I need AWD. :)
Thanks to all those who helped me through my little problem!!
