Hi folks,

First time poster so apologies if this has been discussed. I see maintenance discussed in other threads but I find I'm even more confused, so I thought I'd post directly to fellow canadians.

I just picked up a 2014 forester xt. My questions are thus:

1)The current maintenance schedule suggests every 10,000 km but my dealer (and everyone else, for that matter) suggests every 8000km. Does this mean that instead of 30,000km, I should be bringing it in at 21,000km? What is the general consensus?

2) The canadian owners manual also suggests using 0W20 synthetic oil for all foresters (including turbo) but I'm hearing that the american OM suggests 5W30 oil. What is the general consensus?

I'm not sure why the american and canadian owners manual say different things. This is where my confusion stems. Your clarification is much appreciated.

Be gentle pls :)

I go by owner manual maintenance..

NOT what $$$DEALER$$$ suggests. Never "skip" maintenance, my last vehicle 80,000 miles never an Issue, would have been still going strong but I wanted roomier vehicle

Just stick per your manual like what Cactuskid mentioned above. ^ You will be fine. I think the main reason for the oil difference is location? Thinner oil acts better in colder weather. Don't quote me on that though.
