Are there cables that connect shifter to gearbox, or is it a direct connection.?
If the former, I would search that,,,cables hard shift,,,

I have an 07 Subaru Forester manual trans. i have what i read so far an abnormal shift. my gears are not mating. I think im stuck in fifth gear, but when i release the clutch my gears grind. the only neutral i have is when the clutch is engaged, but the stick shift is really hard to move and wont shift.

it just happened. put it reverse backed up, went to put it in first. then had an abnormal shift and now it wont mate the gears or shift lever work properly. no prolonged problem. just right then and there.For how long have you been ignoring this problem?
with this manual shift lever, it has a stay and rod to transfer the controls. no cables. the rod should have a bit of a swing to it from the pivot point on the shift lever...Are there cables that connect shifter to gearbox, or is it a direct connection.?
