I'm not certain what happened with the 2014 Forester regarding the cargo cover. My 2006 had a cargo cover that didn't leave a 2" gap behind the seat. The 2014 with a tag to cover the gap as an after thought seems really lame. Seriously who designs like that?

If I recall correctly, the gap is to allow the rear seat backrest to be reclined. The backrest angle can be adjusted by pulling the tab.

And the gap won’t be visible becos your cargo cover has a extension which covers the gap. The extension is a bit filmsy but it does its job of concealing the gap

My 2010 was the same way - a tag to cover the gap - so that the rear seat could recline.
