Has this happened to anyone?

My wife was about to drive away and put the car in revers. Pressed the parking brake button to release the parking brake and managed to move back a few feet then got stuck.

Light on the dash showed PARK in red and she said the steering lock light was also showing.

When I got in the car I couldn't release the parking brake. It took moving from R to D several times and turning the car off to get it back to normal.

Could it be that the car will do that if the driver seatbelt is not locked? I'm not sure if she had it on. She think she did.

Updating with some more info from the wife.

Aparently, she put the car in reverse to get out of a parking spot and started moving backwards.

The steering lock light was on and the car was moving slowly in reverse but would not stop even when she was pressing on the brakes.

The car stopped when she pulled the parking brake button up.

This is not good. I am going to take the car for a little test drive later.
