I am considering buying a 2000 Forester with 140,000 miles on it. It's in good condition, has a relatively new timing belt and a few other things and no leaks. Runs and drives well. I've bought used cars before and know what to generally look for but was wondering if anyone could tip me off on the things to look for that are specific to these cars, things that tend to be problems. I've heard of oil leaks and was psyched to see none on this one. Any thoughts before i jump?

The only thing I know of from experience is rear wheel bearings. I had to replace them 3-4 times on my 2001 - the first was under warranty. But you would hear that if it was a problem now. Good luck...

Head gaskets, but at 140,000 they've probably been done by now if the engine is dry. They usually fail 90,000-120,000 but if you can get a service history you'd sleep better.

Corrosion:

-Fuel Filler neck
-Coil pack causing misfires
-Fuel lines rusting through below rear driver side door
-I have even had my coil spring shear while driving.
