The liftgate struts on my 2014 xt both failed in the last 3 months. Anyone else had this problem?? Can anyone suggest a better aftermarket strut.

Just took my 2017 XT Touring to the dealer yesterday because the liftgate was getting slower and slower opening. The diagnosis was a binding left strut - they ordered both sides and will replace (making noise also) Also got the battery and wipers replaced under warranty.

Over here if I have failed struts I contact a mobile re-gas guy. He comes to my home and replaces and/or re-gases the struts to my liking be it for weight, speed of operation etc. You may have a similar service in your area?

His main tip for maintenance is to use a toothbrush to keep the seals nice and clean.

Thanks @Kevin. I Googled it here and could not find a repair service like you have in Oz nearby. Plenty of aftermarket purchase options. We have more of a throw away and replace culture here versus repair. I found one mail in service in the UK and another in Canada:

When I went to Google.com.au there is a whole cottage industry of repair options in every major City. Looks like someone is franchising this service:

I'm on my 3rd set and they are failing as we speak. I'm in the cargo area a lot. I have a gold plus package up to 100K and get them replaced under warranty.

Thanks @KLEMMER for the heads up. I am going to see what the retail replacement cost would be at the dealer when I bring back in for the warranty replacement. I am monitoring the known issues/costs with Generation 4 Foresters to decide whether to pull the trigger on an OEM extended warranty (have 7K more miles/1 more year to decide) I keep my cars for at least 10-15 years.
