Bobby, I just have to say, because I've been perusing the internet for everything Forester since I bought my FXT - Your journal is BRILLIANT!!! It's concise, well put together, covers most questions I've had (like changing fog light switch bulbs), and is just plain interesting to boot. I keep going back to it over and over.

Thank you for everything you've done. It's been inspiring me to make my FXT into something so much more.

+12V accessory outlet unswitched (always on) MOD.

While I have the inside of my Forester torn apart to do my audio upgrade, I decided this would be a good time to do the "+12V unswitched (always on) MOD". This will give me unswitched (constant) +12V power in the armrest console & rear cargo area

It's sure nice that Subaru left the wiring the same as it was in our '03 X ('03-'08). The relay type has been changed on the later models, but everything else is the same.

Here's an updated & neater wiring diagram.
The wiring diagram for my 2013 is a bit different (as you said the relay type has changed).
This seems like a much easier way to get the 12v power always on. I did the same on my 4runner. Any guesses if the jumper will still work on this relay? Diagram below

@stever1000 to answer your question, you need to see what power feed FB-21 is feed from?

Looking on the SH wiring diagram, the "accessory relay" feeds FB-19, FB-20, FB-21 & FB-22. Meaning, if you do that modification, as done on the SG, all those power feeds will be always on.

You will have to determine if having "all" those power feeds always on will be a problem?

On the SG, the relay, that's bypassed, is "only" used for that 12V outlets, so this modification only affects those 12V outlets, nothing else.

Thank you for taking the time to look over my Member Journal, or MODding Journal, as I call it (literary license). Your comments, questions or suggestions are always welcome. Post them here or send me a PM.

June 29, 2009 - The beginning!

First, thanks to Ian, @Arthrogrian19 for helping me find my next project Forester. I'd been looking for over a year for my next project Forester. It's way newer than I wanted, had my heart set on a low mile '04 XT. Of course I spent more than my budgeted amount, but who could pass on an low mileage '07 Forester Sports XT in WRB!

After contacting the seller for details, with check in hand, my son & I drove up to Shoreline, WA (North of Seattle, WA) to look over the Forester. The Forester was parked in my driveway before dark!

The '07 FSXT is not perfect, being preowned, but with just a bit over 21K miles, it still smells like new (detail spray?) & runs perfectly. It's 100% stock, with the exception of a set of Kumho tires the dealership just installed.

I wanted to get more pictures, but the camera batteries died & the the backup set let us down. :frown:

Okay, on to the pictures, with me thinking... what to do first! Perhaps that should be, what to do second, since I just ordered up a set of floor mats from Jackie, @SubaruPartsGirl a supporting vendor here on the forum.

Bobby...
Below are the first pictures of the Forester taken at the dealership.

Here's how my retirement project looks now! You'll have to look over my Member Journal for all the details.
