I have been building a splitter for 2+months...lol Mods can slow me down
I'm old, so if it's not on a Post-it note, I forget. IIRC, didn't you have it fabricated & you were going to weld it up, or was going to have it welded...

Bobby’s Member Journal
Table of Contents
Notice - with the recent site upgrade, my Member Journals have been seriously messed up! The "Table of Contents" links are "hit or miss", but the posts can still be located by the "Post #" shown on the link.
First things first:
  • Murphy's law - "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong." I've always like that one!
  • DIY - "If you want something done right, do it yourself." Yes, another favorite saying.
  • Hindsight is always 20/20 - "A perfect view of the past using today's knowledge."
  • Measure twice, cut once - It's faster to double-check than to make a mistake. Something to keep in mind... unless you never make a mistake...

You have to keep in mind that I'm retired & it's just my son & me, so I do have lots of time! Even during this bad economy, my investments made double what I use to make in a year, so I don't need to work... until I get bored & that's not likely! Not with this project to keep me occupied

The Forester has been at the body shop since last week. Some of the extended repair time was caused by the local heat wave, but there was also hidden rear bumper damage, which required a special parts order. :frown:

I have to admit that I'm getting antsy to get going on MODs, but I don't want to hassle with body issues when I start the MODding process.

More goodies for the MOD box!

Bobby...

I received my order from Dave, Integrity Performance, Inc. today. A Walbro 342 fuel pump upgrade & Whiteline KBR16 rear swaybar link support bracket kit.

Another great e Bay buy! I got this fog light switch (used) for $12.98, which includes the shipping. It's for a fog light MOD that I'm thinking about...

I used a VUMAXX gauge cup in my '03 for the steering wheel mounted boost gauge. I decided to I wanted one in my '07.

Would you believe I'm going to pick up now! It's been at the dealership (fluid changes) & body shop longer than I've owned it! :frown:

Needless to say, I'm taking my checkbook with me... :icon_eek:

Looks great Bobby! now lets see the rear bumper!
I posted it on the poll thread, but here it for you! As you can see, I decided to keep the contrasting black. I figured there would be too much blue without it. I did have the bumper top mat left off so I could see what it would look like without it. I can always add it later myself, since it's attached with double sided tape. BTW, the chromed tail lights come off today!

Black '08 Sports tail lights!

MOD #2 is complete! The chromed tail lights were replaced with the '08 Sports tail lights.

The Subaru factory/OEM part number is: 84201SA360 & 84201SA370, costs around $300! :icon_eek:

If you don't mind going with aftermarket parts, you can get a set for under $200. Click on the Amazon link ▼
Not a recommendation, just an option. I personally prefer factory/OEM parts.

Bobby...

This is a very simple plug & play MOD for '03 thru '08 Forester models. Pop the hatch & you'll see 2 10mm bolts that hold the tail light assembly on to the body. Remove the bolts & pull the outside out of the 3 clips. On the '03 X I had to transfer the bulbs, since they're hardwired (simple). On the later models you just unplug the wiring harness. I should note here, that the plug, at first glance, appears to release by pulling up on the release tab, but it pushes in to release. After the new tail light is plugged in, position the 3 posts to the clip holes, push to seat & insert the bolts. Another note here. The threads on the bolts have a tendency to cross thread, so if it doesn't go in easily, back it off & try again!

Here's half & half. An '08 Sports tail light on the left & the standard chrome tail light on the right.

The '08 Sports tail light MOD is complete.

Looks great Bobby!
Looks good Bobby!!!
Thanks guys. I wish I could say the body shop work was "perfect", but that's usually not the case in our imperfect world. :frown: Still, I was kinda expecting some problems & the issues will be corrected. Before I take it back to the body shop, I want to do some MODding.

Mud flaps (splash guards) installed!

MOD #3 is complete!

Today I installed the color keyed factory mud flaps, or splash guards, as the factory calls them.

The installation is very easy, easier if you remove the wheels. The only problem I had was with one plastic screw rivet that refused to release & one cross threaded screw!

Since I had the wheels off, I figured it was the perfect time to clean & paint the brake calipers & rotors. I always use Rust-Oleum Bar-B-Q Black, which is a high temperature paint.

Here's a before & after picture. No need to worry about getting some paint on the rotor surface, since the paint will wear off when the brakes are used.
Hint - to paint everything, you'll need to rotate the rotor. Not a problem with the rear, but for my 4EAT front rotors, it has to be in neutral for the rotor to turn.

Okay, if you want to be picky. I see how it could be confusing, corrected my post to "brake calipers & rotors."
