I'm looking at getting a trailer hitch on my 2012 to be able to haul my boat. The boat probably weighs in close to 1200 pounds. Would my car be able to handle that ok? The longest I will most likely be driving is 45 miles away. The boat is a 14 foot aluminum boat with a 20 hp outboard

yep no issues.

legally you should have brakes if your trailer+boat exceeds 1500lb

however you wont have any issues, if driven with common sense.

I will be going highway speeds also. I am really wanting to go to u-haul and have my hitch put on. Is it really worth all the extra money to go to the dealer and have it put on??

i tow a 14ft with 25hp motor fine with mine. you could also install a hitch yourself. Its 4 bolts and the harness just plugs in.
