Thanks SeaScooby, but I have my weak mind set on the OEM hitch. Why?
I like the way it is hidden behind the bumper cover, among a few other things.

I know, there is no accounting for taste....

You do know the OEM hitch is made by either hidden hitch or Curt right? They all will look pretty much th esmae mounted. I also believe the OEM hitch has a 1 1/4" reciever, and a 2" reciever is much more useful.

How did this work out for you?
I'm in the process of looking into a hitch system for an 09 X
My goal is towing a pop-up style camper, anyone have any suggestions?
I'm thinking 2" is the way to go for flexability but OEM is 1 1/4. Do these Curt's bolt on exactly the same as Subies OEM's? There's alotta stuff listed there, does it all come with the OEM from Subaru or is there extra stuff to buy with the OEM too? will that harness activate the trailers brakes if equipped?

The Towing forum includes several good discussion threads (some w/pix) covering OEM hitches and aftermarket 2" hitches. Examples include:

OEM:

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbull...r-oem-trailer-hitch-installation-hints-69253/

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f137/09-forester-curt-hitch-install-41105/

Note that Subaru states the temp / donut spare tire is not suitable for use when towing a trailer, so you also want to consider buying / carrying a full-size spare.

See: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f137/info-towing-w-forester-spare-tire-63564/
and: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f72/full-size-spare-09-forester-52279/

Here's a link to a very nice report on towing a pop-up camper.

Jim / crewzer
