Hello

Gunned it on to the motorway yesterday and there was pop/bang and I saw what looked liked white smoke in the rear view mirror. Car seems totally fine though.

I might have blown the CAT (again) but I've no way of telling. Anything else that it might be?

Thanks

Mark

Hello

Nope no vibration. Just "pop" then white smoke.

Are you sure it was smoke? I had similar when I was test driving my car but it was actually steam (the car had been sitting on a forecourt for about 3 months).

How does the car drive?
Not wanting to worry you but many years ago I remember an Uno turbo in which the turbo failed and a huge cloud of smoke came out from the back. Hope it's not that in your case!

It could have been water vapour but it was the "bang" that got me worried.

The car is still fine and pulls like train. If the turbo had gone I would expect to still see smoke coming out the back, yes?

I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens I guess

Oh and I was Googling "blown catalytic converter" and found this

CTS-V Catalytic Converter Blowout Video by Michael - MySpace Video

Made me laugh but glad this wasn't my mine

When the turbo went on my U11, there was a noticable drop in boost, a light 'pop' and a large plume of blueish / whiteish smoke from out the back. The car continued to produce smoke for the remainder of its roadworthy days :( That'll learn me!

Are you decatted?

I had a problem a couple of years ago.

After a long series of garage visits, I discovered what it was.
The Cat in the up pipe was disintegratinng.

The Turbo impellor was jammed with deris.

More common than you think.

No up-pipe cat on Marks JDM.

Sounds like a brief misfire and unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust.
