MY03 X:

I've noticed a sound coming from the transmission when I shift out of park: it's a very rapid/high frequency ticking that sounds almost like an electric spark. I don't think that's what's making the noise, just trying to describe it accurately. It doesn't sound mechanical/gear related. It seems to come from underneath the car about where the tranny/center diff is located. It seems to continue as I pull away, but I can only really hear it when I'm sitting in my carport, so it's not very loud. Could be a normal sound coming from the a/t or center diff system?

I've only had the car a couple of weeks, so I'm still getting used its quirks.

I think most AT foresters do this. Pretty sure its one of the transmission solenoids pulsing. Mine sometimes can be louder, and in drivethroughs I generally put the car in N as it stops the noise.

Yeah it seemed like a normal sound but not sure with a new machine. I tend to obsess a little bit about noises...

Strangely this morning there was no ticking whatsoever...I don't like intermittent noises.
