Does anyone know if there are any semi-sticky (soft) tires out there that will fit the factory 16" wheel? Unfortunately, budget reasons restrick a new tire and wheel setup  Any thoughts?

Nothing in a stock size or close...

as far as good ST class autocross tires, you have a few choices

Hankook RS2s
Falken Azenis Sport 615s
Advan Neovas

None of these will come in a size that is closs to your stock diameter...

you could get a second set of wheels and just use these for autocross, but you will be in 3rd gear a lot...

I had Falken Azenis ST115's for my first set of "Auto-X" tires.
215-55-16 in size. BTW, I burnt them up, to the wear bars, in about 50-60 laps plus about 8-9000 miles.

They were a good learning tire. The grip(320 TW) was not all there as compared to the ones listed above(200 TW). But, they fit the OE rims fine and got me started at least.

+1 For the Azenis as an Autox tire. It's not so great for everyday though as they will wear out pretty quickly. I use Kumho Ecsta MXs and love them, especially when they're hot :)
