Start stop was really making me nervous...What happens if your in a line of traffic at a light and the starter or the battery fail? The Road Rager with the gun and limited mental capacity might be a problem......Someone here posted a coupon for the start stop eliminator and I ordered it. Easy install under the seat and it works perfectly. Start stop is gone and I don't even think about that bit of over thinking any longer. I like my Forester again! My sincere gratitude to the person that posted that coupon!

At a stop light, my engine shut down as expected. When the light turned green, and I lifted my foot off the brake, the engine failed to restart. The dash lit up like a Christmas tree... check engine, eye sight... etc. I had to shift to park and restart the engine. Has anyone else experienced...

The restarts seem a bit rough compared to other start/stop vehicles. But I have not found it so annoying that I would want to disable it. I calculate it will only save about five gallons a year (I drive about 10,000 miles a year)
The car is designed for it with the starter, big end bearing, etc all being beefed up to cope with the extra starts of a Auto start stop system. They will last just as long if not longer then a car's starter that doesn't have it.
BUT forget about fuel savings, that is marketed just to sell us the system. The main reason for Auto Start Stop is to reduce emmisions especially in the cities, CO2 is one of the least dangerous gas that emmits from our exhausts (NOX etc). The car manufacturers have to pass emmision tests and to appear "green" which is why most modern cars now have Auto Start Stop.
As for fuel savings, you have paid extra for the heavy duty starter and the other engine parts that are needed for Auto Start Stop when you brought the car. It will take many years of city driving before the money saved from fuel savings matches the hardware cost you had paid.

Stop-start has no caused no issues and my Forester's battery is still the original, so over 9.5 yo. It is easy to prevent it activating if you anticipate the stop will be short, just ease the brake pressure a little as soon as the car stops. It becomes automatic after a while.

When you get used to it there is nothing to think about. It took me about 2 weeks when I brought the car 3 years ago to stop worrying about "will the car restart". I don't even realise my engine has stopped anymore. But if you keep getting worked up about "will it start again" then of course you will never get used to it. To me the Eliminator is a solution to a non-existant problem.
I grew very tired of it. And then grew tired of forgetting to push the button after every start to turn it off. I bought the Auto Stop Start Eliminator and the problem went away. I wish I had bought it sooner
I don't like the auto stop start system. What especially annoyed me was when the engine would shut off right as you needed to go and it would have to immediately restart. Or you pull into the garage and when you come to a stop your engine shuts down and when you put it in park it restarts just before you have to shut the engine down again. If there was just a little tiny button somewhere and I could control when it shuts down that would be different. I would really like having the ability to activate it on demand. I also disabled mine.
Over here we have hi jacking hotspots all over the place. The start stop feature is extremely dangerous as it is a 5 to 10 sec in getting away vs non start stop.
Also what happens if the fool behind you is not paying attention and brakes late?

For me it is just a nuisance and will take its toll on the starter causing premature failure. Reducing pollution is important but the slow response poses its own set of issues when you need to move immediately. I installed the eliminator and never looked back.
@Riyadh The Forester is not a rocket off the line. You're getting hammered regardless.
You're usually stopped for a reason. Something is in front of you, there is traffic crossing in front of you. Are you just going to hammer the gas anyways?
Out of the 10 times I have been rear-ended only one did I think I had a chance to outrun it. I was wrong.
Luckily I was still able to control the car going fill bore after being hit and don't go into a sidewalk or something.

Yesterday we went to the dealer for oil change, was in traffic, multilane road, stoplights. I noticed the new red car beside me at light was always just restarting as I drove away. Was at least a 2-3 second delay at every light. My car ... already running ... was in the go mode and just went. I was just waiting for solid green and watching the traffic for "runners", and noticed the red car "hanging back". I saw that I was clearing the intersection every time before that red car began moving, and I was NOT jumping the lights. Usually I started moving just about time I heard the red car's starter, just by coincidence. Pulling into traffic from a side road or driveway, I can see that 2-3 second delay being the difference between "rear fender vs no rear fender".

What is this "eliminator" you speak of? I have to disable the damn thing every time I start the car, via the button on the lower left dash...And I usually forget until I get to a light. I posted about this very problem a week or so ago, here.
