I just read post #488 with the copy/paste from the owner's manual.
You can also defeat auto-stop by turning the steering slightly left or right from straight ahead once you stop.
That's a pretty easy one-time solution in addition to lightly holding the brake pedal.

You should never turn your steering wheel to the left when stopped because in the event you get rear-ended you will be pushed into oncoming traffic.

I think slightly means just that, not enough to go around a corner, but just enough to kick in the electric assist, telling the ECU that the engine needs to stay running.

You could probably just wiggle it a little.

You could just turn it slightly away from any obvious collision objects.

I will have to try it to see just how much it takes, but it's not the most predictable thing to know if it is not shutting off due to that or not. About all you have is the icon will turn white when it is disabled and you push hard on the brakes. Maybe it will do the same with slight steering input.

Also this is a global forum/vehicle , so the side oncoming traffic is depends on the location. Could be why the owners manual doesn't specifically state either direction. Just slightly.

Long time member but don't post often. However, I had to jump in on this discussion...

I fitted the AE026 in mid-April and thought I'd give it a few months to assess any issues or problems. Nearly 4 month later and this little device has made driving our '19 fun. My wife was used to all the button-pushing when she starts the car, but my daily-driver is 'turn-the-key-and-go' so it was a re-education every time I drove the Forester.

Long story short, this is a great product and the best $99 we've spent on our Forester!

My only question is this: Should I remove it when it goes into the dealer for service? I just wonder if they happen to notice whether it will void our warranty? Any and all advice appreciated.

Great question. I want to know as well, since based on this thread, I'm considering buying this gizmo for my 2022 Wilderness. Will it work on that model, too?

I’ve had one on my 19 Touring (purchased 10/18) since they first became available, and I’ve never had any problem with my service department. It shouldn’t even come up in a discussion unless youre having some electrical issue related to the start/stop logic.

Resurrecting a not-quite-dead thread...

I decided to let donkey do its thing for 14000 miles (shhh! don't tell anyone I put that many miles on in three months)

It took 9300 miles for me to save 1 gallon of gasoline (9280 actually). That wasn't "normal" driving as there was a 4000 mile road trip in there. Over the next 4700 miles of "normal" driving I saved an additional 0.68 gallons of gas. So maybe this feature saves me a gallon every 7500 miles or so, or about 1 in 250 gallons. Sounds totally worth prematurely replacing batteries and starter motors.
Most engine wear occurs on start up.
Reduce engine wear? Fewer startups. :)

However, in regards to the Auto Start/Stop: Yes, it is OK to disable it.
I have the Auto Start/Stop Eliminator I purchased for $80 and it has worked flawlessly.
All it does is remember the last setting you used in the car.
For instance, once installed, just push the button to disable it and it will remember that forever or until the button is pushed again.
You can always activate it just like normal if you choose.
Just to clarify, it does not "permanently" disable the feature.

I hope this helps.

@dz302,
Oh, that is good to remember last setting (so it can turn back on), I thought it is permanently disabling the feature.

Which product are you talking about?

Lot's of us have this product with great success, many have had it working for two year's now.
Autostop Eliminator for 2022 Subaru Forester two models one for Forester with reverse auto braking and one without RAB.
Is it remembering last setting (so that it can turn back on the feature), or permanently disabling the feature?

What is the difference between two models? Which model should I (in USA, 2022 Forester Base) choose? I don't see a box under the seat, I think I should go with AE038 ?

Any installation video for AE038 ?

Thanks.

I don't know much about mechanical, why they are installed in two different places in the two videos?

Thanks.

Two different models of the eliminator. One if you have rear automatic braking and one for cars without.

Personally think it's a waste of money. Too simple to just press the button provided by Subaru after starting the vehicle.

But if you insist, I would avoid the $30 Amazon version.

As mentioned you can, of course, just push the button each time you start the car to disable.
I personally found that to be a pain in the rump as I would usually forget and would prefer it to just not be on, period.
$89 is not that much money in the scheme of things.

The top video is for the Auto start stop eliminator most people here use. Easy under the seat install, you may have to loosen the two bolts on the black box under the seat to more easily plug it in.
I found it a pain to constantly push the stop start button on the bottom left of the dash as it was hard to see and get to.

I've put a highlighting sticker on my button so it can easily be seen.
There are still those rare occasions where I forget to press the button, pull up at a set of lights, engine stops and I think 'what the....'!
Still can't get an eliminator in OZ.
