I want to find the best way to eliminate this Automatic Start Stop system. I get anxious every time it stops my engine while I'm waiting to turn left in traffic. Sometimes it's two or three times at a long green light in traffic.

Thanks to people here who provided links to the vendor of the eliminator.

I had a quick response from the vendor that sells the autostart stop eliminator.
I can order from their website
I get to pay for shipping; it's not much. Of course there's tax and duty at the border.
Cost in Canada will be substantially higher than in the USA. Oh well

I shall decide whether to go this route; I know which version to buy. (it's mounted under driver's seat)

Our Jeep had this feature too; after 1-1/2 years of driving I never remember to turn the switch off.

We just hit 1 year of ownership of our 2020 Forester Sport this past August. Also, 1 year since I installed the Auto Start Stop Eliminator as of yesterday. We currently have just a bit over 25,500 miles and we haven't touched that evil start/stop button in a year, ZERO ISSUES!

Hi all, Thinking of getting a 2022 Forester Wilderness and cannot find the owner manual - Is there a way to disable the auto start/stop? I've read somewhere you can disable it by using the rear defrost but would be nice to have another option in winter when you're stuck in traffic for hours.

Thanks for your help.

To clarify...when you disable AS/S after you manually start your car, it remains disabled for the duration of your drive.
Here's an aftermarket device that will permanently remember your disable setting:

Does the auto stop/start feature actually engage the starter motor for every start or is there an auxiliary starter motor?

There's way too much to learn. I see that AVH is like auto Stop/start without stopping the engine! LEARNING CURVE!

AVH (auto vehicle hold) keeps the brakes applied until you tap the gas (or maybe the brake again?)...

A/S/S (auto stop start) shuts the engine down after a certain load threshold is reached and the restarts when you put pressure on the gas pedal or remove your foot from the brake.

Generally, yes, the starter is used to restart the engine. In most cases (not sure about Subaru) the starter - as well as other components of or attached to the engine - has been redesigned for the increased start functions and the stoppage of the engine for short periods of time.

And by "way too much to learn" are you referring to your Subaru or creating a profile in this forum?

@wayneh143 I always refer to the glove box portfolio for our '17 as the "PhD dissertation". If you have a pre-2019 without Eyesight it's merely a master's thesis.

Yes. With the possible exception of the base model, all Australian SJ and later Foresters have auto stop/start. The starter motor in mine still works fine as does the original battery which was probably made in Nov/Dec 2012.

What this post is getting at comes from hybrid (including "mild hybrid") vehicles, where the electric propulsion motor - or at least the beefed-up alternator - can help spin the combustion engine, including at start up. See a new Audi A4 / A5 / Q5 2.0T - the alternator setup on the engine has odd-looking heavy duty features, including a guard over the serpentine belt. I'm not sure whether these Audis even have a separate starter motor or not. Anyone know?
