I'm looking to buy a 04-06 XT forester but cant make up my mind.
my main concern is if I buy an auto it does not have low range, if I buy a manual to get low range that I my not ever need or use. as 90% of use will be city

so those of you that own autos and take them off road do you ever find your self wishing you had L/R ?

cheers Paul

i would suggest that it has nothing to do with off-road vs. on-road

i hate auto's......other people hate manual's

what do you like? buy that type.....

l/r only raises the revs by about 500, about 1/2 a gear....not really a low ratio IMO

Unless you are lucky enough to be able to get a 1.6:1 low range.

With the XT it is difficult to control the power with a manual box for slow, steep stuff; they tend to just wheel spin. And the XT auto on the great WA beaches would be excellent!
