There is no sump gasket fitted as such, its "liquid gasket".

Landrovers straight from the factory have gaskets on the engine sump.

but when you need to replace them, they recommend that you use a locktite instant gasket.

maybe Subaru do the same.??

The early N/A Impreza auto box had a gasket, but none of the Foresters has one listed.

i used Motul Multi ATF. I think it took around 9 litres.

i dont know exactly what the service intervals should be but generally an auto box is every 25k. so it pays to use good quality oil

like what velocity oil to use, is there different types of auto box oil like theres different types of engine oil?

I've just had a rebuild and the specialist Subie shop (not Subaru dealer) found a gasket on the sump and said that has been added by "someone" at some point and was not good as it lowered the oil pan and hence the oil level.

I got to thinking that as I use the dipstick for oil level how could it be that the oil would drop away from the transmission - but that's what I was told. :shrug:

Doesn't make any sense to me. Adding a thick gasket would drop the pan and increase your transmission reservoir capacity.

Looks as if you do not have Adobe Reader or its plugins installed on your PC for reading PDF files.

Try installing reader 9 from here........

thats a very interesting read!
it says in it about removing the old gasket, and replacing it with liquid gasket "three bond 1217b" does that mean anything to anybody?lol!
and to use dexron 111 type automatic transmission fluid.............
where can i get that?
or whats similar?

surely its good practice to do if im changing the oil?
it must have some crap in it,otherwise why would there be a filter there in the first place?

Dexron III is latest ATF standard available from Halfords or here..............

The Three Bond 1217B liquid silicone gasket is recommended for its resistance to ATF, hence why its used for the Auto Transmission Pan.

According to Three Bond, its available as a "spare part".

I'm assuming K0877YA020 is the Subaru part no: for a tube. As to whether Subaru UK keep it in stock I've no idea. They may tell you what to use ias an alternative.

The guys here used a cork gasket instead of the 1217b.............
