All, I just replaced the bulb that illuminates the AT shift lever (99 Forester). I've put everything back together but I can get the shifter to move out of park. When I push the shift lever I can hear the solonoid click so I don't think that's the problem. I'm sure it's simple but does anyone know what I've done wrong.
Thanks,
Keith

Remove the plastic cover/console around the shifter. Once it's uncovered look in the front section of this area and you will see a small hole. Stick a small screwdriver into this hole to reset the shift-lock. My 2000 does this so often I just drilled a hole in the console above this hole so I don't have to remove it each time. It can be a PITA when you are in a hurry.

problem solved

Good point, I took off the cover again and used a screw driver to depress the shift lock release and it didn't work. It was then I realized that the mechanism was blocked by the wire leading to the lamp I just replaced. I re-routed the wire and everything works fine.
Thanks,
Keith
