I took my 2003 Forester into AndrewTech to have a wheel bearing replaced. Overall, I couldn't be more satisfied with their service. Over the phone, they were extremely helpful and responsive. Once I scheduled a time to bring the car in, it was fixed the same day. When they ran into issues with the lateral links, they called me immediately to let me know what was going on. When I picked the car up, the tech that worked on my car took the time to thoroughly explain everything he did and the other things he noticed with the car (bent lateral links). Moreover, they charged significantly less than the dealer and even cut me a break on the unexpected labor costs. I would highly recommend AndrewTech Automotive to anyone in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area that is looking for a quality independent Subaru specialist.

This is absolutely the place to go to.
They only do Subaru's. I did an engine swap there.
Prices are very good and they are honest and do excellent work.

I usually do everything myself but when the rod bearing went I decided it was best to pay for the swap. This was fortunate because getting a good engine was a saga that lasted from 10/27/13-3/7/14. Absolutely do not buy from Colorado Component Rebuilders (CCR). It took over a month to get the engine and it had to be replaced twice (the car ran like a clattering diesel for about a month during this period) before I finally drove off with a good engine on 3/7. The issue was piston slap, valve train loose and not adjusted properly. At one point the car broke down and had to be towed...the cause was the valve train bolts one side came loose. Andrewtech was extremely patient and stuck with me and pushed CCR until it was resolved. Just can't say enough about them.

So in the end did get a good bottom end sent (Andrewtech had to install the heads and go through and readjust the valves) and I paid $250 in labor which Colorado wouldn't cover which isn't the end of the world but they were sooooo slow (4 months slow as you can see from the dates) in getting the good engine and especially for paying Andrewtech for the work. Needless to say I was extremely worried that I would just have to accept this a as a loss so although it worked out in the end would absolutely not recommend anyone to use CCR.

I was supposed to get a fully rebuilt engine that was good to go to drop in which I could have figured out myself, but would have turned out a disaster given the crap CCR sent. If I didn't have a professional mechanic on my side, CCR would have probably told me it was my fault. The engine is running great now because Andrewtech installed the heads and adjusted the valvetrain properly.

I absolutely recommend Andrewtech. Sam and Andrew are top notch and I'm grateful to them for getting me to the finish.

AndrewTech wanted me to replace my motor mounts and a few other items. Upon inspection before having work done, there was NOTHING wrong with those parts. I drove it at least 18,000 miles since their assessment with no need or additional wear observed.

Was a little tough getting any attention from them when I walked in, but they seem laid back though. Almost just had them do it. But I've heard the "motor mounts" repair BS before (Winkler, Park Road, even Fitzgerald tried that BS on different vehicles).

This was on my previous Legacy GT.

If Andrewtech didn't swap the motor mounts because it turned out they were fine and you were not charged, then what's the problem? I fail to see how this is a strike against Andrewtech. Perhaps going by the mileage of your vehicle or trying to address an issue with your Legacy at the time, Andrewtech suggested the motor mounts be looked at? That seems reasonable to me. However, before they did anything, the mounts were inspected and they were fine.

Am I missing something here? What's your complaint?

I've had Andrewtech service my Forester for a few years now and they have NEVER tried to sell me on parts or service that I did not need. Andrew and Sam would never do that because they have PLENTY business earned the old fashioned way - being honest and fair towards their customers, outstanding service, and the most competitive pricing offered by any dealership or shop in the area. They are a busy shop for a reason.

Andrew, Sam, Jacob, and Sang are the nicest people around. They are never rude to anyone that walks in through their door and each customer has their attention. If they seem a bit pre-occupied, it's not personal. Just take a look at the number of Subarus parked in their lot and then it becomes clear how much work each day presents to them. But knowing them, they wouldn't have it any other way. :bacon:

Great when you find a shop like this that does only subarus.

We have a shop in our area ..Tims Auto Repair inParadise Pa. They have been in business 25 years doing only Subarus. Wouldn't even consider taking my vehicle elsewhere. I know the feeling of a good shop.

I've got an appointment with Andrewtech Automotive in Gaithersburg coming up. I found some solid reviews here on SF.O. , but nothing more recent than five years ago. I'm not looking for smearing or a tickertape parade, just some sense that if you've used them recently. You found them competent and easy to work with......

Am I allowed to ask stuff like this on the forum? I don't want to violate anyone's creds or cause trouble. I'm pretty nervous about this transmission voodoo.

Especially after reading this thread

I would discuss the procedure with the service managers and explain the concerns. You’re allowed to ask questions. The answers will give you a good sense of their competence and caring. Re: You’re cvt will be hot when you arrive, leave some time for cool down. Cvtf must be around 96 degrees F for proper fill. Good luck.
