Hi all, just got a 2018 Forester end of last year and loved it. An issue just surfaced that I'm trying to figure out why. Was driving today and all of sudden the AC turned on by itself. I turned it off and then few minutes later it came back on... Has anyone come across this and know what the problem is?

Thanks

It is normal for the A/C to come on if you turn off the compressor to heat the interior of your car, it keeps the compressor seals lubricated.

Also, to keep the glass from fogging, keep the fresh air vent open.

Also make sure the Auto setting is not on. If the Auto setting is on the A.C. will cycle on/off as needed to regulate the set temp.

My air conditioner also turns off when it wants to and works as it wants. This really annoys me. I will have to call a specialist to solve this issue.
Why? Did you not read this thread and the relevant attachment pages from your owner's manual?

Per subaru the AC does not heavily impact fuel economy and apparently regular use it vital to keep it in operable condition. Subaru recommends that the AC should be run periodically at minimum to cycle the refrigerant which also is the lubricating fluid for the compressor.

I would say that you have set your air con to auto? Or there is a problem with the switch issue that has to do with some wiring problem. Have you checked with the maintenance team at Subaru or get an air con professional to do so? I think it should be a small problem this website lkbrothers.com really helped me with any air con problems I had in the past. You can check them out!

There was a recall on some recent models. It would help us come up with an answer if filled in your basic information.
  • For the best forum experience, we recommend filling in your personal details – car info and location. That makes them immediately available every time you post, so it’s much easier for us to offer appropriate technical assistance, recommend good local sources of supplies or service, and address possible differences in local laws, vehicle specifications, and driving conditions. Or even volunteer to come help with the wrenching.
