Our 2007 Forester 2.5X LL Bean 4EAT will be 3 years old on May 30, 2010. We have 21K on the odometer now. I have been offered a Classic extended warranty from SOA for $564 which would cover the car through 2013 or 60K miles. I'm trying to decide if this is worthwhile for us.
I do all of my own maintenance as per the SOA schedule except for oil changes which I do around 3,750 miles. I have worked on a previous 1986 Subaru we've had including changing the timing belts. I plan to do the belts when it is time on this car. I would be essentially buying coverage for the "hard" parts - block, transmission and axle components.
The car is used for light use and is not loaded down or used for towing. Extended top speed we do is around 70mph on the infrequent long trip.
The only real concern I have for this car is problems with the aluminum cylinder heads over time. Is this a problem that I should be concerned about given the use of the car? Are there other problems for the newer Subaru's that I should be aware of? Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.
