Hello all,

I just put new access. belts on my 2005 2.5x and have not found much use for the tensioner screws. While attempting to tighten the right side tensioner (closest to battery), the bolt kept turning and cracked the plastic tip that it screws into (now useless, bolt just hangs there). I have tension on both new belts but only from moving the alternator by hand (on one belt) and pushing down hard on the loose pulley (on second belt). I know I am doing something wrong but just don't seem to see how the tensioners work. Any help would be appreciated, I guess I need to purchase the plastic portion of the tensioner that I cracked by tightening too much. Thanks in advance for any advice.........

Yeah, I just did the same thing. I actually found this forum looking for the answer. Over in the 2.5L forum there's a discussion thread that has a link to where to get a replacement part. /f66/broken-tensioner-48477/
