On way to work this morning, these came on. Parked up, switched off and theres a 'whirring' noise at the front end. Haven't had time to go back out to car but hoping it'll have stopped now engine cooled down? Will check later.
Seem to recollect there's been a load of stuff about this, but really haven't got time at work today to go through forum so a heads-up would be useful and I'll pop back here later and have a look.
Assuming the whirring stops and I'm not going to end up with a flat battery, is it still ok to drive - really need to get to Oxford tomorrow, 80miles each way.
Thanks everyone

Checked at 0845, still whirring?

Sounds like the secondary air pump relay has stuck, black round thingy near ns susp turret. Try pulling the fuse, it is the big one shown in this thread, piccy in post 23, and see if it stops
Fuse box is next to the pump.

Max, thank you. Pulled that fuse but no joy. However when I pulled the 50a Vehicle Dynamic fuse in the main fuse box, the whirring stopped, so that will allay any worries I had about battery draining down whilst car parked up here at work.
In the little time I've had at work, I've had quick look in the handbook and from what I can see it should be okay for me to drive the car (assuming normal road conditions) without that fuse - seems I'm only losing ABS and Traction control but would obviously love for someone to confirm this is indeed the case and nothings going to fail on me!Leading on from this, would it be safe to drive to Oxford tomorrow - 80 miles each way from home
Thank you everyone

Well I've managed to go and from Abingdon today with the car showing no adverse effects.
If, as you reckon, the secondary air pump relay has stuck would that have had a bearing on the ABS/ Traction lights coming on? Coincidental surely?
Will try and have a word with my man tomorrow and see what he reckons

Been along to local auto-electrical guy and he's plugged the car in and diagnosed a fault with a motor - his machine's not given him a fault code. With the 50A Vehicle Dynamic fuse in place, there's a constant whirring noise at the front of the offside wing which I believe is the ABS pump - square unit with FL/FR/RR/RL stamped on it. This would obviously explain why the ABS and Traction Control lights are on.
My local garage isn't interested in having a look "its too much of a specialist part" so unless I can find someone that is willing to it looks as if I'm at the mercy of the local Subaru garage, that sadly isn't that local.
There are a couple of relays there, but pulled one and all seems ok but I suppose that short of replacing them I'll never know for sure.
Anyone else got any suggestions?

Oh well, cars going in tomorrow - Bentens Autocare in Marden, about 40 miles away but run by couple of guys that used to be at Walldonway in Larkfield - they were my nearest Subaru dealer until it closed down at back end of 2013.
Read somewhere on the technical forum that the ABS/Traction Control lights could be coming on through the Steering Angle Sensor being faulty. Lets see what the garage come up with.
