I just bought a 1998 Subaru Forester. Apparently the guy I bought it from wasn't straight forward with me, as I have had the car in the shop since I got it a week and a half ago. It drove great for over an hour on my way home. However, when I stopped to put gas in the tank, it started chugging and has been doing so ever since.
The shop I have it in said that someone put a junk yard engine in. It was meant for an automatic tranny...my car is a manual.
So does anyone know what the problem may be? If it an engine/tranny match problem?
Thanks everyone,
John
P.S. The shop checked speed sensor.

I would suggest a different shop, Subaru uses the same engines for both the automatic and the manual. There is nothing to worry about as far as the engine/tranny match is concerned.

As for the chugging, is the check engine light on?

It would give the members of the forum a better place to start if it is and you could get the code read and post it up.
