Is it true that the $5 fix won't work on a 2006 na forester? I think I read somewhere that that rear sensor serves other functions and the $5 spacer fix is not recommended.

Thanks Bobby. There is so much info on the P0420 code, it was hard to sort through it all relative to my 2006x premium.

My plan is to replace the rear o2 sensor first. If that doesn't work, try the spacer. If that doesn't work, replace the cats.

@trouthunterjohn the spacers cost less than an O2 sensor, so if you're feeling lucky, you could try that first. ;)

If the $5 fix gives you a P2096 CEL code - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean Bank 1, you could remove the spacers & try a new rear, downstream O2 sensor. If the P0420 is still there, move on to a new CAT.
