Could it be done? Drop-in fit or would there need to be a lot of adjustments necessary? Just wondering since Forester is based on Impreza platform. For instance say if a guy had a connection in a fairly large auto salvage operation and if a WRX were to come in to their yard as salvage from a total loss accident where the engine bay took no or minimal damage and he could get a deal on the mangled WRX's undamaged engine and ECU etc... Just dreaming here.

I believe the bump in power vs. the '09 came from the different turbo and exhaust. Swapping the whole engine is pretty extreme, the difference in compression ratio (8.2:1 in the WRX vs. 8.4:1 in the FXT) isn't THAT huge and you could lower it by just installing lower-compression pistons. I'd go forged since they'd be lighter, too.

Better-flowing downpipe and a slightly bigger turbo and you'll be over that figure easily. That number is measured at the crank, dyno figures most of us use here are at the wheels (~35% difference?).

Putting a turbo engine in a non-turbo car can be done, but there are some issues (cross-member in the way of downpipe?)

You'd have one of the first 5-speed FXT's in North America then, if not the first. There's at least one 6-speed already, but not sure about the 5.

Remember that you'd need a new FXT hood though.

true enough , but of course anything can be done, just a matter of time and money.
