I did a search and it netted me nothing so I will ask. Im thinking of going back to 17" wheels and the stock size is 215/55/17 IIRC.

What size tire is everyone running? 215/225 or other? My suspension is

Stock struts with swifts(when I can find a set)

This will be with stock 17" 2007 XT wheels, the 5 spoke design.

TIA

I run 225/55/17 on my stock suspension X, and 225/55/17 snows on my XT with Swifts. No rubbing issues and I like how they fill up the wheelwells real nice. The ride quality is really smooth and the speedo is dead on too.

With the power you're pushing, I'd go for the widest, stickiest tires that will fit. With your setup (Swifts & +48 offset), anything wider than the 225 might rub.

To keep your speedometer close, you may want to consider a 50 series tire.

Actually the speedometer are more accurate with 225\55r17. With your WRX suspension it might be too low but with swift 225/55R17 are perfect.
I have 225/55R17 three season and 215/65r16 winter tire

Im getting too old to rock the superlow WRX set up so Im going to swifts and stock wheels and tires with sidewalls to help soften the ride.

Thanks for the recommendations. Now what tire do you guys recommend? Something budget priced is what im looking for.

Bobby, the power is all too easy to control with my right foot. I could spin the dunlop sports in 245 so their isnt much that will help if my right foot goes tot he floor! But in all seriousness, Im finished racing the fxt. I will continue to beat on it but no more launches or autox's. Just a fun car now.

Do you use a full size spare? I looked at the 225/55 17 last time I bought a new set and the spare was just a bit tight for the wheel well - not for width but diameter - and a full size spare in Australia is a must. Perhaps it was the tyre type - a Bridgestone Potenza RE001 Adrenalin - with full tread and it just always looks slightly bigger than the original geosquealers.

wider is always the better option!

I told myself I would stop racing the FXT and start looking for a track car....hope to buy a factory 5 cobra in a year or two and then tear up the tracks! But with that being said, Im sure I will hit the track sometime this year, but I wont go 10/10ths...maybe 6/10ths

If you go with 225/55/17 just get a Outback 17" donut spare off eBay. 225/55/17 is the stock size on the outbacks.
Will do!

Brian,

Before you pull the trigger on your new tires, I strongly recommend going here or here. Plug in your stock data of 215/55-17x7", +48 offset & what you want to go to. Read the data & know what you're getting. This is how I pick my tires & it's been right on.

I'm running 225/50/17 in the summer on WRX suspension. Pretty good size, but only running it because DTD was out of stock in 235/50/17 in the tire I wanted (ZE912). Before that I ran 235/45/17 on both stock suspension and WRX, but that does look a bit short.

I ran 225/55/17 on the stock struts with Swift springs. I liked the slightly wider and taller tire over stock.

I am running a 235/50/17 on 17x7.5" et48 wheels now on the SF with the FSTi suspension (similar drop to swifts). No rubbing, but it's close.

This is the SG with 245/45/17 on 17x8, et40 wheels also on the FSTi suspension (plenty of clearance):

If you're only using a 7" width, I'd go with a 225/55 for a little more "fill" with the higher ride and more width for performance.
