The XMode switch on my 2021 Forester is completely frozen/immobile. The switch will not turn left or right nor will it depress.
Is this just a broken component or is there something else I should know or do?

the button on my 2017 is the small part to the left, not the big shiny "XMode" label that looks like a bigger button

Wait, wait... In the single xmode version, the knob is the VDC or traction control disable? you don't have the button to the left of the steering wheel?

(OP) Thx for the clarification about which switch I have. My Forester has XMode switch type A with 2 modes.

The XMode on my '21 sport works as it should.
If yours is totally frozen I would get it to a dealer.
Any chance a sugary drink was spilled on it? Just trying to figure something out....

I see now, my SJ generation is very different, switch-wise

(OP) Thx everyone, it seems that the problem is a malfunction in the switch itself, not something I am or am not doing. Next step? A service visit with Subaru.
