2019 - Phone Book download unchecks - update done, no help?

If I try to use voice control (Bluetooth only again) to make a call, system says no number. When I check settings - phone - download address book is off. I turn it on, but a few days later it might be off again. I just had my first service and asked about software updates. They said there was a radio update and they applied it, but I still see the issue.
Its fine when its hardwired..Android Auto, but sometimes I just want to use Bluetooth for a quick drive.

Has anyone seen this or have an idea how to fix it?
thanks

@hmeyerowitz you might let the members know what model year Forester you have.

► Edit - thank you for the update! I added the ['19+] prefix to your thread.

I did have an update done last week.It didnt help. I wonder if Suburu is aware of this?
I have a new 2019 Subaru Forester Premium, when connecting my phones via Bluetooth the phonebook/contacts do not download, I contacted Subaru America direct and received the following response from one of their Customer Service Reps::: I was just made aware that we have a software update coming out by the end of this month that should address the loss of the phonebook download. Once it is available we will let you know so you may perform the update and correct this concern.::: I am going to contact them again a week into September to see what they say...!!

I just heard from Subaru of America... there was a software update for the head-unit released on 8/21 which should address the problem of the address book/contacts not downloading during Bluetooth sync... I have an appointment with my dealer on 9/10 to have the update done... will let you know if it works!!

Thank you for posting this, Herb! Just got a Forester two days ago and couldn't figure this one out. I was searching high and low on Google (frustratingly), but I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I'll be contacting the dealer to ask more about the update everyone on here mentioned. Cheers.
Thanks for the share. I'll be letting my dealer know about this, hopefully they'll come to the same conclusion.

Update not needed. We got our 19 Forester Sport on Friday and had the exact same problem. Tried for two days to get the bluetooth to work with phonebook and messages on my Android phone (Galaxy 10+) all you need to do is update/reboot the radio i.e
STARLINK system. Let me run out and see exactly where we found this setting and I will post instructions.
Rebooting your Starlink/i.e. bluetooth radio so that your phonebook and messages are recognized.
1. Turn on Starlink/home unit
2. Press your home button (little house shaped button)
3. Press Settings on your homescreen. (App box with Grey circle and gears)
4.Press General on the bottom of the screens choices.
5. Scroll down on the right hand side of the screen to the very bottom of choices. Second from the last choice is "Factory Data Reset". Push this and the Starlink system will reboot.
6. Reload your phone via bluetooth and it may take a few minutes but at this point it should load all your phone information.

I hope this works for you all. It took us a long time to find the solution but it has been working great ever since!!
Let me know if it works or if you have other questions.
GOOD LUCK!

Well..... that was a busted flush.... went to the dealer today and informed them that I had been advised by Subaru America that there was supposed to be a new update for the head unit released on 8/21.... well... after an hour the rep came back and advised that there was no new update and that my system was up to date (strange considering this is the first time I have taken the vehicle in since I picked it up at the end of July!!)... they said that they have ordered a new head unit to see if that helps.......will see....

This method worked for me as well

Thanks a lot !!!
My problems have been resolved... after going back and forth with Subaru of America and my dealer, it was decided to replace my head unit.... the new head unit was installed and I am now able to download my address/contact lists via bluetooth from my phones...I was also advised that there is going to be a software update sometime in December...
