I just bought a 2019 Forester and would like to get a front facing camera. Can I get one from the dealer or service department? Which model is recommended for my new car?

www.thedashcamstore.com

Look at the Blackvue models as they are top notch. If out of your price range, there are other good choices as well. Happy to help answer any questions as I am an EE and have researched these things to death and do my own installations too.

I am interested in installing a front facing camera in my Forester grill (not a dash cam) but a front camera similar to the one offered in the 2019 Ascent. The 2019 Ascent front camera uses the smaller dash screen to display the camera view. Anyone know if dealers will install this camera in the Forester? Or any other advice on how this can be done?

I found this camera on ebay, any advice if this would work if I get it professionally installed?

I realized the 2016-2018 front grill is different from the 2019 grill. I am waiting on the ebay seller to get back to me on what the 2019 camera piece would look like and how it would fit.

If you install yourself, just be aware that the manuals are very specific on where it can be placed without interfering with the built-in cameras of the Forester. No more than 10.4" from either side as I recall. Also applies to E-Zpasses and other transponders.

First things first. Do '19 Foresters sold outside the US have this available as a factory feature?
You'll need to find out if your car has the correct wiring harness necessary to do the install.
Then you'll need the correct camera and connector harness.

This thread give you some relative general info on the process.

I explored doing the install on my '17 Forester and determined it wasn't feasible.

@Lakewalker In Ukraine all foresters came without front camera, but official service can install front camera (not original), and connect them to same display and button, as camera in mirror. May be they installing ascent cameras, but I don’t sure, cause in Ukraine there is no ascent:(

I cannot see the sense of that grille mounted dash cam, especially when in bumper to bumper multiple lane traffic, the view would be somewhat limited.
A dash cam mounted higher up would give a better field view so that you just may capture what lead to the accident in the first place.

Dash cam and front cam are two different things. Front cam used for parking, or you can use it on off-road, and front cam doesn’t record video. Dash cam is for recording situation on the road. One of use cases of front cam showed in this video.

Has no idea of this feature in the Ascent! It would have been a great option for the 2019 Forester. I would have shelled out for it.

It's offered on 2019 Foresters in Australia. They call it "Front View Monitor (FVM)"

They also offer Side View Monitor to see how far your wheel is from the curb. It's a camera in the side mirror. Not sure why these things aren't offered in NA.

If that is available in AU, shouldn't it be possible to install it in the US? The vehicle is build on the global platform, so maybe one of the benefits is that something like this could be retrofitted?

I think it is possible, but you should know part number of this front camera, and this is a problem.
