Hey,

Thinking about putting in the Footwell Kit in my 2019 Forester. Looks like this one doesn't go to the center console like it did in previous years. Any gotchas here? I've read over the instruction pdf from STIS but it doesn't seem that bad.

Still looking for information on this, along with info on putting in the Turn Signal Indicators into the Premium. Thanks.

This footwell kit, was plug and play. Has a harness that plugs into an unused plug behind the steering wheel, simple wiring instructions, and has better illumination than the Subaru version.

@Tokyo SKE Do you have this footwell kit installed in your SK Forester? If so, do you have pictures of your installation process? I wonder how difficult would it be to ship to the United States since I didn't see any international shipping as an option..

Seems that you can buy these in the USA, not available here in Australia.

What triggers the illumination? Does it get toggled on/off with a switch?
When you unlock the vehicle, it illuminates on full brightness. Then once the engine is one, it fades to 30%, or you can set it to be 100%. Its not crazy annoying at full brightness and at 30%, it is a very nice soft glow. My wife says it reminds her of airplane cabins soft blue led that are on some newer planes.

There is video playlist of the installation process. Here:
Each video is very short. The visuals are very self explaining, and a nice slow speaking Japanese speaker explains.

You basically, have to take off one quarter panel for the ground. The power is supplied by a coupler that is not hooked up to anything, at first I couldn't find it my car, but after just looking for a pink taped cable I found it. After that it is super easy.

The first video also shows how it lights and fades up.

Yes that is the genuine subaru part. It can only do the two front seats. The after market version can do all 4 and even more areas if you want. It is also half of the cost, but very good quality.

I always thought the OEM kit was too expensive, $125. I bought a Type S kit from Autozone for about $45. It was the color changing LED with 2 12" strips and two button LEDs. I have the 2019 Sport and set this system up with the orange LEDs. The best way to connect this is to directly tap the blue LED wire that illuminates the cubby hole in front of the shifter. I removed that LED (simple twist) and tucked it behind the console then I ran two small button LEDs connected to the multi-color controller. So, the two strips and the two buttons are all the same color, orange in my case. The benefit of tapping this wire is that the LEDs are automattically turned on/off with the headlight system. They also dim with the dimmer switch just like the factory LED does in the cubby hole. No need to have the LEDs during the day, pointless. No need for manual switches. When you tap the OEM LED wires, everything works perfect as it was designed and you can dim them with the headlight switch too!

The install was totally easy. Pos and Neg wires tapped right into the LED wiring. No running wires to the fuse panel. Everything was tucked away right there behind the cubby hole. I suppose if you want to change colors, you can move the controller to the glove box, but I only wanted one color and everything works perfectly. I think I have some install details and photos on my modz page.

This was one of my very first modz and is still one of my favorites. This setup can be done in an hour and you can buy all the parts tomorrow!

I also did this mod but I used the OEM blue light which I bought from bamwholesaleparts.com for $101 (part # H461SXC101). The install was a a bit involved. Had to remove a lot of panels. However, one benefit is that the unit taps into the instrument panel light dimmer. So the OEM is light can be dimmed when you turn down the instrumental panel lights. It also goes on automatically when your lights go on. Overall, though I was hoping for a bluer and brighter light. OEM install instructions attached for your reference.

Might you have the part number for the 2019+ in red? The Subaru parts websites I have looked at only show blue as compatible, and don't give a red part number.

I found H701SFJ101, but it shows as not compatible with the 2019.

So i bought the footwell illumination kit for a whopping 100 bucks last week on ebay.

Finally got around to installing it yesterday. The install was kind of annoying, removing so much plastic.

Finally got it all installed! first off, the LED for the footwell lights are the size of a thumbtac. Ok, maybe they are just super bright.

Took the car out for a ride during the night. These lights must be the weakest/dim LEDs i ever seen. EXTREMELY disappointing honestly.

I have the cluster brightness well all the way up and its just insanely underwhelming.

@sonofjack1337 Blue? OEM? 2019?

I found a seller on eBay with a good price, but it might be too good to be true. Recent feedback for the seller says that the bag was waterlogged. Might be why the pricing is so good.

who is the seller?

I got mine on ebay as well under retail price. Mine came out to 84 dollars after taxes

Well, now I understand why the 2019-2020 kits only come in blue. A big thanks to @sonofjack1337 for the added details and information, which included a photo that reminded me that the 2019-2020 already have factory illumination in the lower cubby in front of the shifter - that is blue. I was looking at the red to better match the dash controls, but the blue makes sense.

I went ahead and bought the kit from eBay. I hope to have it within the week and will update here with the install notes and a photo or two.

Installed the Subaru footwell illumination kit earlier this week. I would say that the illumination level is adequate, but barely so. It does, however, match the center console illumination, so that is a nice feature. Regardless of the illumination level, however, I would say that even in the world of generally overpriced OEM accessories this kit seems overpriced for what you get.
