Did they fix the remote start where when you open the door, the car shuts off?

There are two types of remote starts. The one I have at least (the type that's its own device), opening the door does not shut the car off.
Is that the one with starlink? How much did you pay for it?
When you purchase the car you're offered the starlink with remote start for $75 for 3 years after that the price seems to go up quite a bit per year.

i have a 2017 forester xt with factory installed remote start.

this is the stand alone compustar keychain remote unit, so extended range but not the starlink one.

yes this is a security feature to prevent car jackings. should be a brake peddle depressed with out keyless entry key being in car type.
Not the Starlink in my case either. The fob for the thing is larger than I want in my pocket. But since I park outside in Vermont, there will be winter mornings when getting the defrost into action before going out will be an advantage. The fob will stay in the house.

I was wrong. Didn't notice when the salesman demo'd the feature. But now finally trying for myself, yes the car goes turns off when the door's opened. Sorry for the misinformation. Assumed I would have noticed such an obvious thing.
This is for the 2019? This is annoying if true.

Yeah 2019. Base model so the ignition is normally requiring the key. Might be different with the Starlink version? Or the keyless, push-button start?

I can see the argument that you don't want someone to be able to jump in your running vehicle and drive it away. Also, since it takes a key, inserting the key in the switch's off position with it running makes for complicated logic in the switch.

Every remote start I have ever had worked that way. It's not just a Subaru thing.

The aftermarket ones i've had and known do not do this. They will lock the door though so no one can go in the car w/o key fob unlock.

MY19’ Sport does not turn off when opening door. Remote Start using Subaru App in my case. Car locks and will remain locked unless you physically unlock car using either the handle or the keyfob.

Yes I have a 2018 xt touring and I hate the fact that the car turns off when you open the door but I love the range and convenience of the remote start. Also the delay to start the vehicle is annoying. I work for ford and the remote start turns on almost immediately after you press the button and stays on when you open the door l.

I use the remote start feature via STARLINK. The car does not shut off when I open the door. One wrinkle that wasn’t real obvious is that the car can’t be taken out of “Park” until the ignition button is pressed, and that won’t happen unless the key fob is inside the car. I’m using the remote start feature more often than I thought I would.

I had a factory remote start on my MY14 where the engine turned off when you opened the door. It was a very annoying part of that system. However, the reliability and range was very good.

I just bought a MY19 and subscribe to the security package with My Subaru. As others have stated, the behavior is better in that the car does not shut off when you open the door. The other benefits are setting your default cli,age controls when you use the function from the app (I.e. front and rear defrost). The one downside may be that the app could have better UX to make some actions easier or quicker.

I just had long range remote start installed on my 19 limited. It is with the additional key fob, not through the app. Basically it is the regular key fob, with an additional long range key fob. The car does not shut off when I open the door. You can't move the steering wheel until you hit the push to start button in the car like you normally start it, but the car never shuts off.

Thats good to hear, did the dealer install this remote start?
Yes, it was a dealer install after the car arrived. I ordered the car through the same dealer.

Not every **I see you said that you've owned** ... my Ford OEM doesn't (thankfully) but you cannot get it into gear without the keyfob with you.
