2019 - CEL code U0284 - active grille shutter?

Last night, as a celebration for my Forester turning 1 month old, I had the Check Engine light come on with a whole bunch of other warnings for nearly every function. I noticed my fog lights, which were on, not illuminated. The fuse had blown, so I replaced it and removed the aftermarket LED light bulbs, with the OEM bulbs installed as replacements. The fog lights worked again but my dash was still lit up like a Vegas casino. A trip to AutoZone revealed code U0284. They couldn’t tell me what it meant. Dr. Google suggested in other years/models that the code is related to the active grill shutter. I couldn’t identify specifically the fuse and/or relay for this so I just removed and inspected about 80% of them. Finally, I decided I’d rather dig further into the situation in my driveway instead of the AZ parking lot near closing time (10PM). I started up my vehicle and no CEL. It must be that time or my fuse R&R cleared it. Lucky me?

Not wanting to have a similar situation with a replacement set of LED bulbs from the same brand, or another, I ended up getting aftermarket halogen in the yellow color I wanted. The beam cutoff is better than with the LED I had previously installed and there's been no issues so it's a win-win for now.

Bumping an old post here as I had the same issue. Installed hid fog lights, blew the fuse (didn't know it was only 10A, will remove hids) and now have the same U0284 code persistently, won't clear. Very annoying as it loses eyesight, reverse braking and all that crap.
maybe just fuse ?
DTC U0284 LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER MODULE "A"
Like I had said originally, I pulled many things before it would reset. After a year now with aftermarket halogen bulbs, I haven’t had the same issue again.
did you use tool to reset ? it takes long time for code to reset on it's own ...
No tool in my case, just removal and reinstallation of nearly all of the fuses. No other had failed, besides that one I had just previously replaced for the fog lights, so it was just R&R in my situation that was the cure.
